Morocco, Brunei Darussalam Seek New Dimension to Bilateral Ties Thanks to Two Sovereigns’ Leadership – Bourita

The leadership of HM King Mohammed VI and HM Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah will help Morocco and Brunei Darussalam add a new dimension to their bilateral relations, said Nasser Bourita, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, in Rabat on Monday.

HM Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and HM King Mohammed VI are good friends. Following discussions with Brunei Darussalam’s second foreign minister, Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof, who is in Morocco on a working visit, Bourita emphasized at a news conference that this relationship is crucial to the growth and strengthening of ties between the two nations.

He added that the 35-year-old relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Morocco is based on “solidarity and attachment to the same values, especially religion,” and that the two nations are connected by their membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and their shared vision of an open Islam.

Food security, tourism, investment, and intellectual exchanges are among the areas where Morocco and Brunei Darussalam cooperate, according to Bourita. Ten scholarships will be given by Morocco to students in Brunei Darussalam beginning in the upcoming academic year.

Despite their geographical distance, Yusof said that since the two nations’ diplomatic ties were established, they have continued to forge “warm and fraternal relations,” adding that “active exchanges between the two sovereigns, governments, and students have brought our peoples closer together.”

Exchanges in the areas of education and Islamic affairs have benefited both parties and helped to strengthen friendship and understanding between Brunei Darussalam and Morocco, he said.

Morocco and Brunei Darussalam are well-located in Southeast Asia and Africa, respectively, and can take use of this to boost “the development of economic activities,” according to the Minister.

This is the first official trip of its sort by a representative of this nation, the Second Foreign Minister of Brunei Darussalam, to Morocco. The Moroccan and Brunei Darussalam Ministries of Foreign Affairs joined together to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation and consultation on this occasion.
