On this occasion, ONCF announces that during 2022, the Moroccan high-speed train has carried 4 million passengers between Casablanca, Rabat and Tangier. A remarkable performance.

“Since its launch in 2018 by King Mohammed VI, Al Boraq has transported in four years since it began operating, a total of 10.5 million passengers,” stated Nacera Bechari, Director of the Marketing Department at ONCF, during a ceremony to celebrate this fourth anniversary, yesterday, the 17th of november, 2022, at the Rabat-Agdal station.

In 2022, the Moroccan LGV carried a total of 4 million passengers between Casablanca, Rabat and Tangiers.

Activities were organized in favor of children during this celebration in the main station of the capital, to illustrate the important contribution of railway transport in the socio-economic life of the country.

Additionally, Nacera Bechari stated that the ONCF had made the decision to give away 400 train tickets good for a whole year to the first 400 children whose parents enrolled them on a specific list at the country’s busiest stations in honor of this event.

Valid tickets for the destination of their choice, on board of Al Boraq.

Al Boraq, which connects the port of Tangier and the city of Casablanca, was inaugurated in November 2018 and is the “first and only” TGV in Africa, according to the chain’s “Travel” department, which throws light on the relevance of TGVs in the region. Climate change is being combated on a global scale.

According to the same source, Al-Boraq, which cost over 23 billion dirhams, also holds the African record for rail speed during technical testing conducted in 2017.

This large-scale project, which is part of the LGV master plan to build a network of around 1,500 km made up of the “Atlantic” axis Tangier-Casablanca-Agadir and the “Maghrebian” axis Rabat-Fès-Oujda, takes the Tangier-Kenitra route in 50 minutes instead of 3h15 minutes, Tangier-Rabat in 1h20 minutes instead of 3h45 minutes,

As the world mobilizes to absorb environmental changes, high-speed trains remain the “most efficient and convenient” solution, especially for trips of 1,100 km, according to the article’s author, Ben Jones.
