Unless something happens, but it was not the tendency on Friday, the midfielder will be an Olympian.

The transfer of Azzedine Ounahi, for 10 million euros with a significant resale percentage, has been agreed upon by Olympique de Marseille (OM) and Angers SCO. RMC Sport reports that the 22-year-old Moroccan international may agree to a four and a half year contract.

The same source claimed that “all parties are confident” and that “only a few details are missing to complete the deal.” Meanwhile, Ounahi “has not attended all of the Angers training sessions in recent days. RMC Sport recalls that the participation of Morocco, a World Cup semifinalist, in the international was one of the surprises of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Therefore, the OM is “in the process of realizing a nice deal,” especially in light of Ivan Ilic’s departure for Torino.

Azzedine Ounahi was one of the revelations of the World Cup in Qatar with the Atlas Lions. Semi-finalist of the World Cup, the midfielder started all the games of Morocco in the midfield except the game against Croatia (defeat 2-1).

One of the unexpected heroes of the present Qatar 2022 World Cup is Ounahi, who was referred to the former Spain national team manager Luis Enrique as “Morocco’s number eight” following an outstanding performance against La Roja when the Atlas Lions eliminated them on penalties in the last 16.

Barcelona is now looking for a midfielder, but Bernardo Silva of Manchester City is currently out of their price range at €100 million ($105 million).

Due to this, according to Mundo Deportivo, president Joan Laporta and his board at the Camp Nou offices have “already” placed 22-year-old Ounahi’s name on the table, attracting the Blaugrana’s attention.

Ounahi, who is now playing for Angers, is a lower cost option than Silva in terms of both price and income. He might serve as a stopgap player until Barcelona could be able to get N’Golo Kante from Chelsea for nothing in the summer.

With his ability to play in a variety of midfield positions, Ounahi stands out. He has previously demonstrated his ability to perform at a high level with strong showings against Croatia, Belgium, Spain, and Portugal.

Angers extended the term of his contract from 2025 to 2026, renewing it just three months before Qatar 2022 World Cup, where Morocco will face France in the semifinals on Wednesday.

The young player is presently valued at about €4 million ($4.2 million), although this sum has not been updated since his World Cup performances, and it is still uncertain whether his new contract included a release clause.

The good news is that Angers president Said Chabane has already stated to RMC Sports that he sees the duo gone “in January or June” as the Ligue 1 club looks to cash in on them. Sofiane Boufal is the other promising international and club companion of Azzedine Ounahi.
