According to a statement from the public prosecutor, Monjib is the subject of a money laundering investigation by the investigating judge, and after being detained in this case, the investigating judge granted him provisional freedom subject to two measures of judicial control, namely the closure of borders against him and the withdrawal of his passport.

Monjib filed a request for the lifting of the hold on his bank account and property, the recovery of his passport, and the opening of borders before him through his lawyers on October 7, 2021, which was denied by the investigating judge on October 13, 2021.

Monjib proceeded to the Rabat-Salé airport to leave the country, despite the fact that the decision to seal the borders against him is still in effect because the investigating court refused his request.

In connection with the aforementioned case, Maati Monjib’s assets were blocked as a precautionary step, which is common in money laundering situations.

In light of the upholding of the judgment by the investigating court, as previously described, Maati Monjib’s complaints of an oppressive travel ban remain unfounded, according to the statement.

A report by the Ministry of the Interior stated that, upon obtaining temporary release by a judicial decision, Maati Monjib made, in a video tape circulated on some websites and social networks, “malicious statements and allegations through which he attacked state institutions, by promoting extraneous concepts and terms that do not represent our national institutions in any way, such as the terms “political police” and “political security” and the existence of “a hidden structure which threatens the safety of Moroccans.”

In this regard, the communiqué affirmed that the work of security institutions remains framed by constitutional provisions, international charters and national laws, “which entitles them to exercise their noble duties in maintaining public order and protecting people and property, with all that is required by the principles of transparency and the rules of security governance, especially since their efficiency is the subject of praise “inside the country as well as abroad, as institutions known for their devotion and selflessness in serving the country and the citizens.”

The ministry announced its absolute rejection “of such irresponsible statements that remain aimed at misleading national and international public opinion and harming the human rights image of the Kingdom,” considering that “adopting such degrading methods will not discourage state institutions from continuing the proper and strict application of legal requirements in the face of whoever believes that having a dual nationality means legal immunity.”

The communiqué concluded that “all Moroccans are equal before the law and are obligated to abide by it, without any favoritism or discrimination.”
