Activists in the Tindouf camps referred to the death of the commander of a military unit of the Polisario militia in an accident when the SUV carrying him and others on a military mission overturned near the sand barrier.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bashelet, yesterday, Wednesday April 28,2021 in Geneva welcomed Morocco’s fruitful cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner and the United Nations human rights.
During an on ligne meeting with the United Nations Human Rights Council’s support group for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, in which 15 ambassadors, a number of assistants of permanent representatives and experts in charge of human rights issues at the permanent missions of the member states of the group in Geneva, Mrs. Bashlet expressed her desire to strengthen this cooperation And its gratitude to Morocco for its tangible contribution to the works and activities of the Human Rights Council.
Regarding the case of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, Ms. Bashlet acknowledged the political nature of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, which is being dealt with under the auspices of the Security Council.

Moreover, the UN official announced that their office and the various tasks assigned to it had received several complaints of human rights violations in the Tindouf camps, especially the suppression of opponents of separatist leaders, the denial of the right of movement, the recruitment of children into military militias, and the prevention of movement outside the camps.

The UN official confirmed in the meeting the constant and firm support of the member states of this group for the territorial integrity of Morocco, and the measures taken by the Kingdom in response to the provocations of the armed militias of “Polisario”, with the support of Algeria.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to express, once again, this group’s rejection of Algeria’s procrastination maneuvers and its exploitation of human rights for political propaganda, through the alliance with a group of countries known for gross human rights violations.

Morocco Prime Minister, Saad Eddine El Othmani, revealed a short while ago, through a Facebook post, that a meeting will be held with leaders of political parties to inform them of the latest developments in Guerguerat.

In his post, El Othmani wrote: “I will soon hold a meeting with the leaders of national political parties to put them in the picture of the operation carried out by the Royal Armed Forces in the Guerguerat region.”

The Royal Armed Forces had announced the establishment of a security belt to ensure the flow of goods and people through Guergarat border crossing. This follows a series of “Polisario” provocations which, assisted by its militias, closed the crossing, and paralyzed civilian and commercial traffic, in addition to harassing Moroccan soldiers and other members of the MINURSO stationed in the region.

The Royal Armed Forces intervene in Guerguerat to secure the flow of goods and citizens after a siege that was implemented under the supervision of armed Separatist “Polisario” militia.
According to a statement issued by the General Command of the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Armed Forces set up a security cordon in order to secure the flow of goods and citizens through Guerguerat crossing last Thursday night.
The statement pointed out that “after seizing about sixty people under the supervision of armed separatist “Polisario” in the road corridor that crosses the Guerguerat, which connects the Kingdom of Morocco and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and hindering passage of civilians and merchants, the Royal Armed Forces established a security cordon in order to secure the flow of goods and people across this axis”.
The statement added that this operation is “non-offensive and has no intention of attack, as it is carried out in accordance with clear engagement rules which require avoiding any contact with civilians and resorting to the use of weapons only for self-defense.”
