“We faced up against a really formidable squad. The encounter was quite difficult since we let up the opening goal, but I believe we could have been more careful,” Saliou added.

Senegal established their domination in the second half by scoring two goals in the 80th and 83rd minutes, whilst Morocco seized the lead in the first half of the game by scoring the opening goal in the 14th minute.

The Senegalese coach praised his team’s “good fight” and tenacity, saying, “We managed to regroup and dominated possession of the ball, especially in the second half.”

Dia acknowledged his deep “delight” with the triumph, which was the first tournament championship for Senegal.

The coach said that the outstanding performance of his club was the result of “work and investment that started many years ago and now the fruits are here.”

Despite Senegal’s victory, Dia claimed that yesterday’s game was instructive for his team since they still have a lot to learn and improve upon in order to be ready for the World Cup.

Said Chiba, head coach of the Atlas Lions, congratulated the Moroccan team for their outstanding performance throughout the continental competition.

“The result is harsh on the players at this age but we will take it in. This is football and I told them that I am proud of their performance,” he added.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded Chiba the competition’s Best Coach after the U17 final, praising him as a “leader” and “mastermind.”

The Moroccan diplomat stated that His Majesty King Mohammed VI has added a precious stone to the structure by acting with conviction and a strong determination at three levels in an interview with the Senegalese newspaper “Le Soleil” that was published on Monday.

Politically speaking, “by upholding the values of this unique partnership, as evidenced by the eight official visits to Dakar, (…). This is the most visits to an African sister country that have been documented “said he.

In terms of the economy, he continued, “HM King Mohammed VI and president Macky Sall, as well as his predecessor Abdoulaye Wade, driven by this sense of common destiny and the spirit of solidarity (…) have invested to give substance and concrete content to this unique relationship by establishing solid and innovative partnerships between our two countries,” noting that these mutually beneficial partnerships cover sectors like finance and construction through off-shoring.

Thirdly, he emphasized that “our high authorities have made significant efforts to build a beneficial partnership in cultural sectors as indicated by the vast number of students enrolled in both Senegal and Morocco with their positive impact on mutual knowledge and people mix.”

Similar to how His Majesty King Mohammed VI represents the Commandery of the Faithful, Naciri emphasized the significance of this aspect, saying that “this concept is crucial to understand the exceptional nature of our relations insofar as it transcends all the traditional aspects of relations between states, it has its own dynamics, and it develops outside of all contingencies of any kind.”

Senegalese football is starting the year 2023 as it started the year 2022. Two days before the celebration of the first anniversary of the first victory in the CAN, the local Lions brought back from Algeria a trophy to make the party even more beautiful. Pape Thiaw’s men did (almost) the same as Aliou Cissé’s by winning the first CHAN in the history of Senegalese football.

Senegal won the CHAN on penalties following a closed final (0-0, 4-5). Thanks to Pape Diallo, who made it difficult for the Algerian defense, the Lions of Teranga were a little more tenacious than the Fennecs.

The match was not particularly exciting, aside from a few minor chances. The goalkeepers were remarkably silent, and the numerous technical flaws rendered this game’s conclusion dull.

https://twitter.com/CAF_Online/status/1622173185486774272?s=20&t=F-Pd_QO8w_uz2tXp04uUgg

The two teams were separated by a score of 0 to 1 after 120 minutes of play, but the Senegalese were able to focus during the penalty shootout, giving the victory to their fans who had filled the Nelson-Mandela Stadium in Baraki, in the southern suburbs of Algiers, the capital of Algeria.

Mr. Youssoupha Diop, new Consul General of the Republic of Senegal in Casablanca, was also appointed by the Senegalese President at this Council to replace Mr. Massamba Sarr, according to a news release from the Senegalese Presidency made public at the end of this council.

Last April, the Republic of Senegal established a Consulate General in Dakhla. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Assata Tall Sall, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, presided over the opening event.

“Under the leadership of the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the President of the Republic of Senegal, Mr. President Macky Sall, this consulate general will serve to magnify the excellence of our relations,” Ms. Tall Sall said during a joint press briefing with Mr. Bourita at the end of the inauguration of this diplomatic branch in Dakhla.

The inauguration of the Senegalese consulate general in Moroccan Sahara not only shows the desire to strengthen bilateral ties further, but also “the aspiration that the two states have since nourished,” according to the Senegalese director of diplomacy. “I long for Africa.”

A diplomatic source at the Moroccan Embassy in Dakar called on members of the Moroccan community in Senegal to calm down and not to be intimidated by what is shared on social media regarding the current situation in the country, explaining that both the Moroccan diplomatic and consular representations are still working hard to answer the various inquiries it receives from Moroccans residing in Senegal.

The diplomatic official believes that the popular demonstrations in Senegal express the extent of the dynamism of the Senegalese people, and that the situation has not reached the dangerous security situation, as some countries have known in such political crises.

He also stressed that there is an exaggeration at the level of Senegalese websites, calling on the Moroccan community to remain calm and not to be drawn into a state of intimidation that spread during the past week after the Senegalese authorities had arrested opposition party leader Ousmane Sonko.

On the other hand, the capital Dakar, has witnessed the application of strict security measures, in parallel with the court’s decision to release Sonko and place him under judicial control.

The Ministry of Education in Senegal decided yesterday, March 7th, to close schools across the country until March 15th, due to the violent protests that Senegal has witnessed recently, and which paralyzed parts of the capital Dakar as well as other provinces.

This came in statements made, Friday, by the Senegalese Interior Minister, Antoine Felix Diome, regarding the protests taking place in almost all parts of the country, especially the capital Dakar, to demand the release of Sonko.

Diome stated that 4 people lost their lives in the events that erupted after the arrest of Sonko, last Wednesday, March 3rd, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims.

The minister also pointed out that during the violent acts which continued throughout Friday, all over Senegal, public buildings and workplaces were attacked, in addition to a number of acts of theft, indicating that the government strongly condemned these events.

Diome described these events as “terrorist”, accusing the detained opposition figure Sonko of calling people for violence, and stressing that he will mobilize all the country’s capabilities to restore public order.

Activists on various social media platforms have shared photos and videos of the protests in different parts of the country, directing a torrent of criticism to the government.

The opposition Sonko, who lifted his parliamentary immunity last week in the parliament session, in preparation for his trial, was accompanied, last Wednesday, by a number of his supporters to testify in the court of Dakar.

However, the police blocked the motorcade before reaching the court, arguing that there were too many, and stated that only 4-5 cars would be allowed to pass and drive to the side of the court.

Sonko waited three hours in the same place and was not allowed to go to court, only to be arrested later on the pretext that he was “disturbing the peace of society.” After the detention order, many of Dakar’s main roads were closed due to traffic and other violent incidents which occurred between police and Sonko supporters.

Osman Sonko faces two charges (rape and death threat); his parliamentary immunity was waived last Friday in preparation for his trial.

Sonko was surrounded by controversy due to media reports stating that he was charged with assaulting a salon employee, but the political leader denied all allegations and said it was a political conspiracy set by the president.
