Yesterday Tuesday, March 9th, Martin Nyaga Wambora, Chairman of Kenyan Council of Governors (CoG) and Governor of Embu County, stressed in an interview with Morocco’s ambassador to Kenya, El Mokhtar Ghambou, that Morocco is considered “a great hope for the successful development of Africa.”

Wambora expressed his country’s desire to benefit from the rich Moroccan experience in the field of decentralization and deconcentration, stating that “many African countries, including Kenya, would like to learn from Morocco not only how to develop agriculture and promote tourism, but also benefit from its experience in good governance in the field of decentralization.”

The Kenyan official also praised Morocco’s political stability and tolerance embodied in the harmonious coexistence that prevails in our country between Muslims, Jews and Christians.

“Political stability and tolerance in the Kingdom, which is guaranteed by His Majesty’s leadership, are examples that should be strengthened throughout Africa” said Wambora.

On a different note, the Kenyan official called on all Moroccan regions to establish direct contacts with the Kenyan CoG in order to study common means and explore all opportunities that arise from all sides to develop the partnership between the two countries. He also invited Moroccan investors to visit Kenya and explore investment opportunities available there, especially in the food industry.

Moreover, Wambora said he is “impressed” by the level of development of Moroccan agriculture, as well as by the Kingdom’s policy of managing water resources through the construction of dams, and expressed Kenya’s interest in learning and benefiting from this unique Moroccan experience in Africa.

As for the Saharan matter, Wambora affirmed that he will insist on the central government’s support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, because “it is the only solution to this conflict.”

He added, in this context, that he would appoint ten governors from 47 councils to travel, as of May 15th, to southern provinces to investigate the situation in the region, stressing, “We are ready to visit the cities of Dakhla and Laayoune to put an end to the false allegations that some have made regarding Moroccan Sahara.”

For his part, El Mokhtar Ghambou invited Kenyan senior officials to come and visit the southern provinces of Morocco to see first-hand the economic and social development that has been achieved in the region.

Die Welt, a German daily newspaper, has recently published an article rega14825rding the vaccination campaign in Morocco

“A text message is enough and seconds later, Moroccans receive their vaccination appointment. The Kingdom has overtaken Germany in vaccination. And while Europe is in lockdown, life in Morocco is almost like it used to be.” wrote author of the article, Alfred Hackensberger, in his introductory paragraph, wondering what lies behind Morocco’ success in managing the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the newspaper’s report, the vaccination campaign is known to be a great success in terms of organization. So far, two and a half million Moroccans have received their first vaccinations in 2888 centers, and there are more than 100 thousand Moroccans who are vaccinated daily, including teachers, health professionals, police member…etc. The goal is to vaccinate 80% percent of the adult population, equivalent to 25 million people.

Compared to Germany, and some European countries that are witnessing the second phase of the pandemic – the report adds – the Kingdom of Morocco, is on its way to reach full immunization. At a time when the rate of the first and second vaccinations in Germany over a period of seven days reached 126 thousand people (806 per day), Morocco succeeded last week in vaccinating approximately 173,920 people per day; the Kingdom has therefore outshined its European neighbors during these difficult times.

Morocco, as stated in the report, has been distinguished by its rapid and strict reaction and proactive measures since the beginning of the pandemic, as the decision to close air and land borders was taken on March 13th, 2020, as soon as Covid-19 cases started to appear. Schools were closed, quarantine was announced for a period of more than four months, and a law was imposed on wearing protective masks. In return, the production of masks has been boosted, the once-suffering health system is back on its feet; as hospitals are now equipped with modern medical technology, new emergency clinics are built, and medicines are available in sufficient quantities.

For his part, Pr. Hicham Sbai, Head of resuscitation department for Covid-19 patients at Mohammed VI Hospital in Tangier, confirmed in his statement to Die Welt that Morocco’ success is owed to its national strategy in which all institutions and actors participate, stressing that Morocco is adopting the well-known anti-malarial drug “hydroxychloroquine” in treating Covid-19 patients and reducing death rate, despite controversy between European doctors and scientists regarding its effectiveness.

Morocco’s experience in managing the Covid-19 pandemic remains a true success story, as Pr. Hicham Sbai expressed to the German newspaper.

Tourism: like Spain, it is a major driver of the Moroccan economy. While the pandemic crisis is expected to subside soon, the “24th General Tourism Assembly” will be held in Morocco, an opportunity to show the world the potentials in this sector. The touristic offers in Morocco are varied in terms of climate, geographical landscapes, culture, Arts & crafts, and the Moroccan cuisine, which is considered among the best in the world.

The former campaign manager is finally joining the White House after making it known for a long time that she has no plans to work in the administration if Biden wins the election. A former deputy campaign manager for President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, she led the campaign of former MP Beto O’Rourke in the 2020 Democratic primaries, before taking the reins of Biden’s campaign at the approach of the general election.

Among the “main advisers” of the future president, we note the arrival of Cedric Richmond, also director of the Office of Public Engagement of the White House. Richmond, national co-chair of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, will focus on raising awareness among Democratic organizations, public interest groups and advocacy groups. He is a figure of the Democratic Party and of the “black caucus” in Congress. He is also expected to liaise with business and climate change activists according to observers. Less surprisingly, Joe Biden’s close friend, Mike Donilon, will also join the White House as the president’s senior advisor. He is the originator of much of the campaign messages and had been Biden’s advisor when he was vice president.

Another figure in the making of the team is Julie Chavez Rodríguez who will occupy the very political post of director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs of the White House. Julie Rodríguez, 41, joined Biden’s campaign as a senior adviser after holding a high-profile post during Kamala Harris’s campaign for the Democratic primary. She was one of Harris’ first recruits after Harris won her seat in the California Senate in 2016. Granddaughter of civil rights leader César Chávez, Rodríguez is close to Barack Obama. She previously served as deputy director of political engagement at the White House.

Dana Remus becomes advisor to the president. She served as legal counsel for the Biden campaign. Separately, Remus’ experience as clerk to Supreme Court Tory Judge Samuel Alito could prove invaluable to the Biden administration as it braces for repeated clashes with the Tory Supreme Court majority in coming years. Another Biden confidant, Steve Ricchetti, who was vying for the post of chief of staff, also becomes an adviser. His past career as a lobbyist for health insurance, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies in the 1990s and early 2000s, however, raises concerns among the most liberal of the Democratic camp.

Julie Annie Tomasini, in the Biden team since 2008, will be the Director of Operations for the Oval Office. Finally, Julissa Reynoso Pantaleon is named as “chief of staff” of the wife of “Sleepy Joe”, whom he often defines as his main advisor, “Dr. Jill Biden”.

… and the names that circulate

One of the positions that arouse the most public interest is that of “press secretary”, in other words spokesperson for the White House. Several names are being considered: Karine Jean-Pierre, francophone born in Martinique, senior campaign advisor to Joe Biden who later served as Kamala Harris’ chief of staff, and Symone Sanders, senior campaign advisor, are competing for the face of the White House in front of the press. Kate Bedingfield, deputy director of the Biden-Harris campaign and director of communications, is being considered to become the all-powerful communications director of “The West Wing”.

As for the “cabinet”, the future government, things will logically be formalized later. But the name of Susan Rice, the American ambassador to the UN during the Obama mandates, comes up very often for the post of secretary of state. She was among the first to congratulate Joe Biden on the formalization of his victory by the American media. On CNN, however, she refused to discuss her future.
