Ministry of Health and Social Protection: 28 verified cases of infection and 46 potential cases of Omicron’s new mutant have been announced

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection informs the public that 27 additional cases confirmed by the new mutation have been filed under the National Surveillance, Epidemiological, and Genomic Monitoring System. Since the first confirmed case on Wednesday, December 15 2021, “Omicron” of SARS-COV-2 has brought the total number of confirmed cases of this mutant to 28, with 13 cases on the oval-midge side, 11 cases on the Rabat-Sala-Kenitra region, and 4 cases on the Fez-Meknes region.

In terms of the nature of these confirmed cases, 20 were filed under seven familial hotbeds and eight were filed as isolated cases. Five of them were children ranging in age from four months to thirteen years.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has confirmed 46 probable cases, 14 of which are in Marrakech-Safi.

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection also informs the general public and individuals that a large number of suspected cases are reported every day, either as hotspots, mixtures of confirmed cases, or instances with unique epidemiological characteristics. The samples are examined as possible cases within the genomic vigilance system using a specific PCR test before being validated by genomic analysis.

In COVID-19, the epidemiological monitoring system has now recorded 381 confirmed cases, the highest number of daily instances since the connection began, including 38 suspected cases of the novel Omicron mutant.

Given the huge increase in the number of cases and epidemiological spots, especially among families, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection warns that the risk of an epidemiological setback remains quite high. The Ministry therefore urgently urges all women citizens and citizens to fully commit to individual and collective preventive measures and measures, such as wearing the muzzle properly, washing or sterilizing hands with an alcoholic disinfectant on a regular basis, and keeping a safe distance while receiving the first, second, and third enhanced vaccination doses.

As it has been from the start of the pandemic, the Ministry will keep you up to date on all new developments about the spread of this mutation in our country.
