Stephanie Frappart will be the first female referee to lead a World Cup match

Stephanie Frappart, the French referee,  will be the first woman to conduct a World Cup match. She will referee the match between Costa Rica and Germany on Thursday.

The World Cup 2022 in Qatar, will mark the spirits by several world news, among which the first ever match of the World Cup for men, refereed mainly by a woman.

Stephanie Frappart is one of the three women selected among the thirty-six field referees of this World Cup with the Rwandan Salima Mukansanga and the Japanese Yoshimi Yamashita. Three others are part of the line judges. At 38 years old, the World 2022 in Qatar is the logical continuation of a meteoric rise in the career of Stéphanie Frappart.

The 38-year-old referee, will have to referee the third and last day of the group E for the match Costa Rica and Germany. She will be accompanied by the Brazilian Neuza Back, and the Mexican Karen Diaz who will be her assistants.

Stephanie Frappart was the first woman to referee a Champions League match between Juventus and Dynamo Kyiven 2020 before this milestone, which pave the path for more female referees.

Frappart has notable achievements for female referees in men’s competitions. She was the first to officiate a French Ligue 1 match in 2019, a European Super Cup final the same year, an official national team match in 2020, and the French Cup final in 2022.
