Rabat Welcomes Atlas Lions After World Cup achievements
The Moroccan 2022 World Cup team landed in Rabat on Tuesday to begin their celebrations after their historic World Cup journey.
Earlier today, the team arrived at the airport in Rabat-Sale, and video of the event showed the players arriving with their moms.
Numerous thousands of Moroccan football supporters gathered to the streets of Rabat, the country’s capital, to cheer on the team as its bus passed by.

Following a tour of Rabat’s streets in an open-roof bus from the airport, the players arrived at the Rabat Royal Palace, where King Mohammed VI will host head coach Walid Regragui and his team for a Royal meal.
The national football team of Morocco had a historic World Cup performance in Qatar, being the first African or Arab side to go past the quarterfinals, as well as the first Arab team to reach the semifinals.
The Atlas Lions were the tournament’s breakout team, winning over both neutrals and those seeking an underdog tale in addition to the millions of viewers at home.
Following a scoreless draw in their opening match against the runners-up from 2018, Croatia, the team defeated favorites Belgium 2-0 and Canada 2-1 to go to the knockout rounds for the first time since 1986.
The Atlas Lions then won against Spain, another formidable opponent from Europe, in a 3-0 penalty shootout. They also won 1-0 over Portugal to go to the semifinals.
Although France’s 2-0 victory over Morocco and Croatia’s 2-1 victory over them prevented Morocco from finishing third, the team’s performance was still the greatest by an African or Arab nation in the tournament’s history.
