Morocco: Tanger Med continues to be a leader in the African and Mediterranean regions in 2022.

The Tanger Med port complex has recorded, in 2022, a growth on all indicators of its activity, which has enabled it to maintain its leadership in the Mediterranean and Africa.

It has handled, during the year 2022, a total tonnage of 107,822,662 tons, up 6% compared to 2021, said a statement of Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA), noting that this traffic should represent about 54% of the total port tonnage achieved in Morocco.

Regarding container traffic, a total of 7,596,845 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) containers were handled within the Tanger Med port complex in 2022, representing a 6% increase compared to 2021.

Excellent levels of productivity have been achieved during the past year and the record of 700,000 TEU containers handled per month has been exceeded, the same source said.

Regarding Ro-Ro traffic, the port complex has processed 459,091 trucks TIR in 2022, growing by 13% year-on-year, notes the statement, adding that this good momentum of national exports was driven mainly by the industrial and agri-business sectors with respective growth of 22% and 11%.
