CHAN 2023: CAF decides to cancel Morocco’s matches

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to cancel the games of Morocco, which was unable to make the trip, in the framework of the African Nations Championship “CHAN” Total Energies Algeria 2022

In a statement published on its official website, Thursday, January 19, CAF announced a change in the schedule of Group C of the CHAN ”

It specifies that “in accordance with the resolution of the Organizing Committee for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) TotalEnergies Algeria 2022, the schedule of Group C has been updated as follows:

  • Match 13 “Morocco vs Madagascar” is cancelled.
  • The match 21 “Ghana vs Morocco” is cancelled.
  • The match 22 “Sudan vs Madagascar” initially scheduled in Oran, will now be played in Constantine.

“The Organizing Committee has decided, in accordance with the Rules of the Competition, that Group C will be composed of three teams and that the first two teams will qualify for the knockout phase, “adds the statement.

This cancellation puts an end to the false information conveyed by the Algerian media which did not cease to evoke a withdrawal of Morocco from the competition, even calling for sanctions against the country.

Pushing the ridiculous to its maximum, the Algerian committee in charge of the organization even went as far as to align the opposing team, whistle the beginning of the match, and declare the forfeiture of Morocco, inflicting a defeat on green carpet (3-0).

This scenario, set up against Sudan, was to be repeated against Ghana and Madagascar, to try until the very last minute to make people believe that the Moroccan national team has withdrawn from the competition, and not prevented from participating for purely political considerations.
