Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, welcomed Brunei Darussalam’s support for Morocco’s partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), speaking at a press conference after discussions with Brunei Darussalam’s Second Foreign Minister, Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof, who is on a working visit to Morocco.
“Brunei Darussalam has always strongly supported the strengthening of Morocco’s relations with ASEAN,” he continued.
Regarding regional issues, specifically the Palestinian issue, Mr. Bourita stated that the two nations share the same approach and vision. He also said that Morocco, through the leadership of the Al-Quds Committee under HM King Mohammed VI, has “a responsibility” on this issue and “a role to play” in preserving “the religious and Arab identity of this city.”
For his part, Yusof praised Morocco’s interest in joining the ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partnership and its “continued commitment” to the Association, especially through the diplomatic internships it provides to diplomats from Brunei Darussalam and other ASEAN nations. Yusof spoke on behalf of Brunei Darussalam.
He continued by saying that about how to resolve the Palestinian issue, Brunei Darussalam and Morocco hold the same views.
The second foreign minister of Brunei Darussalam is making an important working trip to Morocco, which is a first for the nation.
