Morocco positioned as African model in tourism innovation, UN Tourism says
Morocco praised as African leader in tourism innovation. Morocco has emerged as a leading African model in innovative tourism development, the Secretary-General of UN Tourism said on Friday, highlighting the country’s strategy combining infrastructure, culture and long-term planning.
Speaking in Marrakech at the opening of the second edition of the International Conference on “Technological Innovation and Tourism Investment”, Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais praised Morocco’s role in shaping tourism growth across Africa.
Innovation and heritage at the core of tourism strategy
Al Nowais said Morocco’s approach is anchored in political stability, modern infrastructure and cultural heritage, adding that the country has successfully transformed its history and identity into immersive tourism experiences.
She also pointed to the opening in Rabat of the first UN Tourism thematic office for innovation in Africa, describing it as a reflection of strong cooperation between Morocco and UN Tourism.
The conference, organized by the Moroccan Agency for Tourism Engineering with the Ministry of Tourism and UN Tourism, brings together startups, investors and policymakers to promote innovation in tourism, digital technologies and gastronomy.
It also includes startup pitch sessions, financing discussions and a national competition featuring 275 startups, aimed at supporting high-value tourism projects and rural tourism initiatives.
