Morocco: New Record, Man Swims 1,600 Meters in Icy Waters

By covering this distance, Baraka beats his personal best in ice swimming which was 1,200 meters.

On Thursday, Moroccan swimmer Hassan Baraka swam 1,600 meters in icy water, the limit authorized by the International Ice Swimming Association.

Hassan Baraka dived around 9 a.m. in the icy waters of Aguelmam Azegza Lake which is located near the Middle Atlas, around 47 km away from Khenifra. The professional swimmer covered a distance of 1,600 meters in 4.3 °C
water within 34 minutes and 36 seconds.

By covering this distance, Hassan Baraka beat his personal best in ice swimming, which was 1,200 meters.

In a statement to the press, Baraka stated that he was very happy to beat a new ice swimming record in Khenifra, adding that he feels very proud to be the first Moroccan to swim 1,600 meters in a temperature below 5°C.

“I decided to take up this challenge at Aguelmam Azegza, where a major international ice-water swimming competition has been organized for three years now, with the participation of several Class A swimmers,” Baraka said.

On this occasion, he encouraged all those who like to take on such challenges to give their best and push their limits, but only to the extent possible.

It should be noted that Hassan Baraka is the first Moroccan to finish the World Marathon which is a multi-event competition that consists of running 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. Baraka also holds the record for the swim-crossing of both Bosphorus and Gibraltar Straits.
