The first “Apache” combat helicopters, which Morocco contracted to purchase last year from the American “Boeing” company, are expected to arrive soon. This is part of a first deal consisting of 24 aircrafts, expected to be added to 12 other aircrafts in the future, all of which belong to the most advanced version of this model.

It should be recalled that during the past few weeks, Moroccan coasts hosted major bilateral military exercises with France and later with the US Navy.

Morocco and the United States are also planning to hold the largest exercise in Africa, named “African Lion 21”, from June 7th to June 18th, aimed at enhancing regional stability and promote interoperability.

These exercises will bring together militaries of the US and Morocco, as well as Tunisia and Senegal, to enhance response to cross-border threats, counter terrorism and improve preparedness.

Morocco adopts a number of advanced US-made weapons, including F-16 fighters and Abram tanks. A recent US official report confirmed Morocco’s order to purchase Patriot missiles for air defense.

On a previous occasion, Jeff Shockey, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing for Boeing’s Defense, Space & Security unit said that the contract for Apache helicopters is “another step forward in our long partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco”, and “we are proud to provide this best-in-class capability.”

The aforementioned helicopter is considered one of the latest attack helicopters designed and equipped with open system architecture, including the latest communication, navigation, sensors and weapons systems, and it is also equipped with an enhanced target identification system that provides information day and night, and in all weather conditions.
