4 Moroccans dead in Turkey after devastating earthquake

Mustapha Baitas, the government’s designated spokesperson, confirmed that 4 Moroccans died in Turkey as a result of the earthquake that struck the country.

Over 17,500 people have now died as a result of the earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on this Thursday afternoon. More than 72 hours after the first earthquake, the chances of survival continue to drop, and rescuers are still in a race against time to save the survivors.

Approximately 1,300 calls from Moroccans living in Turkey and their families were made to the crisis cell established by the Moroccan Embassy in Ankara on Wednesday, according to Baitas.

“The affected area’s telephone network has been severely impacted, which is the issue. And this is one of the challenges the crisis unit has when it comes to answering calls. However, every effort is being made to help the Moroccans in Turkey, according to Baitas.

Among the 4 Moroccans , the first Moroccan victim among the fatalities in Turkey was identified on Tuesday evening, according to the Moroccan embassy in Ankara.

The first earthquake to hit the nation, with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale, claimed the life of the 51-year-old Moroccan national.

In the southeast of Turkey, there was a second earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5. Egypt and Iraqi territory felt tremors.
