Morocco and Saudi Arabia sign MoU to strengthen judicial cooperation

A memorandum of understanding aimed at intensifying bilateral cooperation in the judicial field was signed, Monday in Rabat, between the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Saudi Arabia. Initialled by the King’s Attorney General at the Court of Cassation, President of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, El Hassan Daki, and Saudi Arabia’s Attorney General, Saoud Ben Abdallah Al-Moujib, at the end of their talks, this memorandum focuses on strengthening cooperation between the two institutions.

The meeting between the two officials was also an opportunity to explore new prospects for bilateral cooperation in the judicial field and in the fight against transnational organised crime, money laundering and new forms of crime. In a statement to M24, MAP’s continuous news television channel, Daki said that this memorandum of understanding aims to promote the exchange of views and experiences, coordination and cooperation between the two countries to face transnational crime, noting that the signing of this agreement testifies to the solidity of the ties uniting the two kingdoms.

The judicial official stressed that this memorandum of understanding will also make it possible to launch joint training sessions in the field of justice and to mobilise internationally to fight against organised crime. For his part, the Saudi Arabian Attorney General said in a similar statement that his visit to Morocco (11-16 February) comes within the framework of efforts to intensify cooperation ties between the two countries, especially in the field of justice and public prosecution. The meeting was an opportunity to review the evolution of the Moroccan judicial system and the experience of the independence of the judiciary in general, and of the public prosecutor’s office in particular. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Morocco, Abdullah bin Saad Al Ghurairi, members of the Saudi delegation and judicial officials from the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
