Eight crew members rescued following a ship incident in M’diq

Crisis teams have been able to save eight crew members when a merchant ship became stranded close to Marina Smir along the coast of the M’diq Fnideq province. However, the hunt for one more missing individual is still ongoing.

In preparation for a potential gasoline leak or any other negative environmental repercussions, the workers at the location are working to proactively protect the coast from pollution.

Oil spills from occurrences like this one have the potential to seriously damage the environment of the area, killing both species that live on land and those that live underwater.

Also, over time, starved and poisoned animals and food products are possible.

They are also considering strategies for securely salvaging the ship.

The crisis unit, which was formed after the ship became stranded, brought together several parties involved in the situation, including government agencies and civil protection squads.

Footage posted online demonstrated the salvage personnel at work on the ship, which appeared to be partially buried in water.

The taskforce includes, among others, the Royal Navy, Royal Gendarmerie, and the National Laboratory for Pollution Research and Monitoring.

The ship, which left Uruguay and was headed towards Lebanon, capsized on Saturday in shallow water off the Marina Samir coast. According to local authorities, the event was caused by an engine failure and severe weather.

The M’diq ports and harbors, a well-liked tourist attraction, provide space for both recreational and fishing activities.
