The annual summit of the International Association of Gendarmeries and Police Forces with Military Status (FIEP) brought together security and military officials from around 20 countries. Morocco was represented by Major General Abderrahmane Lotfi, Deputy Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie, accompanied by a delegation of senior officers.
Morocco and UAE Discuss Security Cooperation
On the sidelines of the summit, the Moroccan delegation met Major General Staff Saleh Mohammed bin Mejren Al Ameri, Commander of the UAE National Guard.
According to the UAE’s official news agency, the discussions covered opportunities to strengthen partnerships between security institutions, with a focus on operational cooperation, training and the exchange of professional expertise.
The talks also addressed ways to improve institutional capabilities and readiness as security forces face increasingly complex challenges.
No specific agreement or new joint operation between the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie and the UAE National Guard was announced in the reports reviewed.
Cross-Border Threats on the Agenda
The summit provided a platform for participating forces to exchange experience and discuss common security challenges. The agenda included cooperation in training, the development of professional skills, information exchange and the use of modern technologies.
These areas have become increasingly important as security threats extend across national borders and require coordination between institutions in different countries.
The meeting also took place as the UAE National Guard secured full membership in FIEP, opening further opportunities for cooperation with other member forces.
Morocco’s Role in the International Network
The Royal Gendarmerie has been a member of FIEP since 1998, according to the original report. Its participation in the annual summit reflects its engagement in multilateral security cooperation and professional exchanges with counterpart institutions.
Hosted by Argentina’s National Gendarmerie, the 2026 summit brought together delegations from countries including Morocco, the UAE, France, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Tunisia and Qatar. The meeting concluded with the signing of a joint declaration highlighting cooperation, the exchange of expertise and efforts to address shared security challenges.
While the summit offered opportunities to strengthen institutional ties, its practical impact will depend on how participating forces translate these discussions into continued cooperation, training and operational coordination.
