Migrants make their way back from occupied Ceuta. Migrants stranded in the occupied Ceuta have received food for the first time since the crisis began five days ago, following a distribution by the Spanish Red Cross and the South-South Cooperation organization, according to Cadena SER radio.
The aid was distributed at Trampolín Beach, where around 2,000 migrants have been sheltering, the broadcaster reported on Monday.
Volunteers handed out water, bread, milk, cookies, canned tuna and pastries, while police oversaw the operation to prevent any disorder during the distribution.
According to Reuters, migrants who swam or climbed border fences to reach occupied Ceuta last week have started turning back since the weekend. Many cited hunger, exhaustion and what they described as an unwelcoming reception from local residents as reasons for abandoning their journey.
