Morocco has become a major partner in consolidating spiritual stability across the African continent, the spokesperson and advisor to the Grand Khalife of the Mourides, Serigne Abdou Khadre Mbacké, said Monday in Touba, central Senegal, highlighting the historical depth of relations between the two countries that stretch back several generations.
Speaking on behalf of the Grand Khalife, Mbacké expressed heartfelt thanks to the Kingdom of Morocco during the official ceremony of the 132nd edition of the Grand Magal, which commemorates the exile of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké, founder of the Mouride brotherhood.
Mbacké said the presence of a Moroccan delegation at the Grand Magal of Touba reflects “remarkable fidelity” and “a constant will” to strengthen the bonds of fraternity between the two countries. “This religious policy makes Morocco today a major partner in consolidating the spiritual stability of the African continent”, he said, pointing to the central role of King Mohammed VI in the spread of Islam across Africa, the development of cooperation with several African states, and the training of imams, preachers and religious guides.
The Moroccan delegation, led by Mohamed Kharroubate, president of the Ulema Council of the Marrakech-Safi region, was received by the Grand Khalife of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Bassirou Mbacké, who expressed his deep gratitude to King Mohammed VI for his ongoing commitment to Islam, peace, and the promotion of spiritual values in Africa.
The official ceremony for this 132nd edition of the Grand Magal was held in the presence of members of the Senegalese government, foreign delegations, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Dakar, and thousands of faithful who traveled from Senegal and beyond.
Considered Africa’s largest religious gathering, the Magal of Touba perpetuates the deep veneration paid by Mourides to the founder of their Tariqa, Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké, whose full name was Ahmad ibn Muhamad ibn Habib Allah.
