The Authenticity and Modernity Party tops the preliminary results, with turnout reaching 38.08% nationwide.
The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) came first in Morocco’s legislative elections with 97 seats, according to preliminary results announced by Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit late Wednesday.
The National Rally of Independents (RNI) followed with 66 seats, while the Istiqlal Party secured 65. The Justice and Development Party (PJD) won 54 seats, followed by the Popular Movement with 29, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces with 26, the Party of Progress and Socialism with 19, and the Constitutional Union with 17.
The Democratic and Social Movement and the Left Alliance each won eight seats. The Front of Democratic Forces and Party of Equity secured two seats apiece, while the Party of New Democrats and Party of Unity and Democracy each won one.
Turnout reached 38.08% nationwide, with nearly six million voters casting ballots. Laftit said participation was particularly high in the southern provinces, reaching 77% in Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, 61% in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab and 53.48% in Guelmim-Oued Noun.
The minister said voting took place under normal conditions nationwide, apart from isolated incidents that did not affect the overall conduct of the election. He also said authorities had activated national, regional and provincial commissions to monitor the process and address any violations.
According to Laftit, 15.8 million voters were registered, with 40,694 polling stations established nationwide. A total of 28 political parties, including an alliance of two parties, submitted 1,847 lists comprising 7,277 candidates.
Women accounted for 2,659 candidacies, or about 37% of the total, including 1,783 candidates in regional districts and 876 in local districts.
The electoral process was monitored by 3,006 observers, including 2,023 from civil society associations, 783 from the National Human Rights Council and 200 foreign observers representing international and regional organizations.
Laftit said the election campaign featured about 21,000 field initiatives involving nearly 1.5 million participants, with candidate field tours and campaign rallies among the main activities.
He congratulated the elected candidates and thanked voters, political parties, candidates, observers and the authorities involved in organizing the election, stressing that the next stage would focus on fulfilling representative responsibilities and serving the public interest.
