During the annual C-24 meeting in New York, Majid Khamis Al Ali, the Emirati representative, declared, “The State of the United Arab Emirates renews its full support for the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco in the actions it undertakes to defend its legitimate rights and its just causes, including its sovereignty over the entire region of the Moroccan Sahara.”

The diplomat emphasized that this plan is a “important solution” that complies with the UN Charter and UN resolutions and respects Morocco’s territorial integrity. He also stated that his nation supports the Autonomy initiative that Morocco presented in 2007 and that the Security Council had deemed “serious and credible” in its resolutions.

He also emphasized the significance of the parties restarting the roundtable process and welcomed the hosting of the two roundtable meetings in Geneva in 2018 and 2019. The diplomat also praised Staffan de Mistura, the UN Secretary General’s personal representative to the Sahara, for his efforts and the three trips he made to the area in January, July, and September.

He added that the United Arab Emirates’ unwavering belief in Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, as with other nations, is reflected by the opening of a consulate general there by his nation, insisting that the territorial integrity of the Kingdom must not be attacked.

In keeping with this, the ambassador hailed the inauguration of the general consulates of 28 nations in the cities of Laâyoune and Dakhla.

The Emirati diplomat applauded Morocco’s ongoing efforts to enhance the living conditions of those who live in the Sahara and to strengthen the indices of human development in this area within the framework of the development plan unveiled by HM King Mohammed VI in 2015.

According to a business statement, the liquefied natural gas supplied as part of the three-year supply agreement “will be delivered to various export markets around the world.”

The announcement made no specific mention of the amounts involved but stated that the arrangement is valued at between $1 billion and $1.2 billion.

The agreement was struck with the French multinational’s subsidiary TotalEnergies Gas and Power Limited.

ADNOC Gas is a division of the government-owned energy behemoth Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), which only started operating at the beginning of this year.

As Western nations scramble to secure energy deals globally to replace imports from sanction-hit Russia, the UAE has emerged as a crucial ally.

During the visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan to Paris in July, a contract “for cooperation in the area of energy supplies” was signed between Total Energies and ADNOC.

As part of a “energy security” agreement to replace Russian supplies, the UAE committed to provide natural gas and diesel to Germany in September.

According to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy, the UAE produced 57 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in 2021, or approximately 1.4% of the world’s total output.

According to the Statistical Review, the Emirates exported 8.8 billion cubic meters of LNG in the same year, or 1.7% of global LNG exports.

According to Bloomberg, the UAE wants to increase its LNG production capacity to 15 million tons per year in the upcoming years.

The Joint Economic Committee meeting, which was held in Rabat and presided over by the ministers of both countries’ economies, came to this agreement.

The UAE delegation included representatives from various government agencies and private sectors.

The committee fits into the framework of the two countries’ leaders’ desire to improve and strengthen their nations’ economic and trade ties in order to support their respective future goals and objectives.

With investments totaling more than 50 billion dirhams (14 billion dollars) by the end of 2021, the UAE will overtake Saudi Arabia as the largest Arab investor in Morocco and the second largest investor globally.

By the end of 2020, Moroccan investments in the UAE will total 289.9 million dirhams (or 79 million dollars). Moroccan investments in the UAE range over a number of economic sectors, whilst the UAE’s investments in Morocco are based on several areas of shared interest.

Morocco’s second-largest Arab trading partner in 2021 will be the UAE. The UAE minister examined a set of economic policies that had been put in place by the UAE to encourage investment and raise it to levels that were more competitive and flexible at the committee sessions.

The UAE government and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development were complimented by the Moroccan minister for their support of planned development initiatives in the Kingdom.

After the meeting, Sadiki gave a press conference in which he praised the close ties of brotherhood between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates and emphasized the significance of expanding agricultural investment and technology transfer between the two nations, particularly to boost agricultural production.

The Minister also emphasized the necessity for both countries’ business sectors to work together more effectively in order to achieve a level of distinctive bilateral cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Morocco.

Al Marri emphasized that this gathering offers a chance to promote investment, investigate paths, and identify potential future investment opportunities in agriculture, agricultural technologies, and food sovereignty.

The Emirati official praised the solid and growing ties between the two nations and recalled the day’s earlier holding of the first ministerial meeting of the Moroccan-Emirati joint economic commission, which had as its main goals the expansion of the two nations’ trade and economic ties as well as the creation of mechanisms for cooperation.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, and Al Marri had a bilateral meeting prior to the first ministerial session of the Moroccan-Emirati joint economic commission, which was attended by senior officials from both ministries as well as some public institutions and private sector actors of both countries.
During the MENAFATF 2023 Applications Workshop, where officials from 21 nations convened to exchange information and best practices, the two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding.

The goal of the memorandum of agreement is to improve bilateral collaboration between Morocco and the UAE in the fight against money laundering, terrorism financing, and proliferation finance. Director General of the Executive Office Hamed Al Zaabi thinks that the agreement will make it much easier for the two nations to work together.

To enhance regional and local understanding of financial crime threats, the collaboration will put a special emphasis on capacity building, awareness raising, and information sharing.

The deal intends to improve the business climate for trade and investment between the two nations and beyond, which will benefit the world economy.

A framework for cooperation will be established by the agreement, including the creation of a joint committee to oversee and implement its contents, coordinate various tasks, and promote communication between the two parties. The agreement, according to Dr. Jawhar Al Nafisi, Chairman of Morocco’s National Authority for Financial Information, has been praised for giving the partnership an institutional character that promotes greater organization, adaptability, and sustainability while also embodying a synthesis of interests.

According to a statement from DGSN, the implementation of a program aiming to increase the exchange of visits between security officials will be part of the framework of bilateral cooperation between the two security units in Morocco and the UAE. This will allow security officials to exchange experiences in various policing fields.

The execution of cooperative training programs for preventing crime, upholding the law, and enhancing the use of science and technology in the security sector is also covered under the collaboration agreement.

The DGST will provide training courses in a variety of subjects, including intelligence, as part of the programs. A number of security teams from the Abu Dhabi Police will benefit from the training. Combating terrorist groups and transient crime will be included in the courses.

A two-month theoretical training program in the area of judicial police and crime prevention will begin on Monday at the Royal Police Institute. Today is the beginning of the training phase.

The program will also include practical training with centralized and focused individuals connected to various security organizations in Morocco, such as the National Judicial Police Brigade and the National Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police.

In order to “ensure the reinforcing of security of the two countries and the safety of their citizens,” the DGSN concluded its statement by highlighting how the partnership program reflects the shared willingness to tighten cooperation between Morocco and the UAE in a variety of fields, including security.

A few months after Abu Dhabi’s Staff Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei’s visit to Morocco in October, the cooperation program was officially launched.

Al Mazrouei met with Abdellatif Hammouchi, the head of DGSN-DGST, during his visit. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the two nations’ current cooperation and aimed to increase it further in order to combat regional threats.
