Trump reaffirmed U.S. recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. U.S. President Donald J. Trump has reaffirmed the United States’ recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara in a message addressed to the King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Morocco’s Throne Day, according to a statement released by the Royal Office.
In the message, President Trump stated that “the United States is unequivocal: We recognize Moroccan sovereignty over western sahara and support Morocco’s serious, credible, and realistic autonomy proposal as the only basis for a just and lasting solution”.
He added that “any other path prolongs the status quo and is unacceptable”, stressing that “this dispute must end now, and the United States will continue to push toward that goal”.

President Trump also extended his congratulations to the King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people, noting that “this year, we celebrate 250 years of American history and enduring friendship with Morocco — a bond forged in trust and mutual respect”.
Trump Highlights Security and Economic Partnership
The U.S. president described King Mohammed VI’s leadership as “an anchor of stability”, praising Morocco’s commitment to peace, combating extremism, and safeguarding the security of Americans and Moroccans, including through its role in the Abraham Accords.
He also affirmed that the United States and Morocco would continue working together to help secure the Sahel region.
Turning to bilateral relations, Trump said Morocco’s vision for economic growth “opens new prospects for prosperity for both our peoples, and economies”. He informed the King that he had directed his administration to encourage economic and social development in the Sahara.
The message adds that American technology and innovation will continue to serve as partners to Morocco “for the next 250 years” in strategic sectors, notably energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense. It concludes by stating: “Together, we are ushering in a new era, one that prioritizes the interests of our two peoples”.
