South Zone General Staff Hosts Final Planning Meeting for ‘African Lion 2022’ Combined Exercise

The South Zone General Staff in Agadir is hosting the final planning meeting of the “African Lion 2022” exercise from March 21 to 25, 2022, in accordance with His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

The “African Lion 2022” exercise, which will take place in the regions of Agadir, Tan Tan, Mehbes, Taroudant, Kenitra, and Ben Guerir from June 20 to July 1, 2022, is a major event that will contribute to consolidating Morocco-US military cooperation and will mark an additional milestone in the two countries’ excellent relations, according to a statement from the General Staff of the FAR.

Apart from Morocco and the United States, nearly thirty partner countries will attend the 18th edition of this important event. According to the same source, the FAR and partner countries conduct joint operations and maneuvers in various operational areas such as land, airborne, air, sea, and decontamination CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) to develop interoperability and strengthen intervention capabilities in a multinational setting.

A flag transfer ceremony of two US high-speed boats, “Interceptors,” handed over to the Royal Navy by the US government took place on March 24, 2022, in the port of Agadir, on the sidelines of the “African Lion 22” exercise’s final planning meeting, according to the statement.
