Turkey’s Erdogan secures third Presidential term

According to unofficial statistics from state media Anadolu Agency, which is presenting preliminary results, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been re-elected.

With a 97% opening percentage of the voting booths, Erdogan earned 52.1% of the vote in the second round on Sunday.

The current President defeated challenger Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who garnered 47.9% of the vote, after failing to win the first round on May 14.

The outcome hasn’t been officially ratified by Turkey’s Supreme Election Council.

As the President began receiving congratulations from many heads of state, images from Turkey show Erdogan’s ardent supporters celebrating this victory.
