Google Breaks Ground on AI Data Center in India, its Largest Outside U.S.
Google is building its largest AI data center outside the U.S. in India. Tech Giant Google on Tuesday began construction of its largest AI data center outside the U.S. in India, positioning it as a global strategic hub for cloud computing and advanced computing.
The $15 billion project, located in Visakhapatnam in southern India, is designed to become a major hub for cloud computing and advanced AI processing. Once completed, it will serve as a key node for powering large-scale digital services, including AI systems and search technologies.
Company officials described the facility as a gigawatt-scale data campus built to handle the growing global demand for AI computing power.
The site will be supported by extensive energy infrastructure, high-capacity fiber-optic networks, and undersea cable landing stations to strengthen international connectivity.
India has been attracting major AI projects for a few months now, appealing tech giants with its large digital market, where 900 millions of Internet users are driving rapid demand for data services.
Google described the project as a major investment in India, given that it’s its first initiative outside the American market.
