Around 25,000 young people turn out for L’Boulevard’s opening night in Casablanca. Casablanca’s L’Boulevard festival opened its 24th edition Thursday night with around 25,000 young people attending an evening dedicated to rap and hip-hop. Held at the Raja Athletic Club stadium, the opening featured Moroccan artists Bo9al, DJ Fly, Figoshin and Dizzy DROS.
Bo9al opened the night before DJ Fly followed with a set inspired by hip-hop and turntablism, giving way to rapper Figoshin. Dizzy DROS then closed the evening with a live band, performing songs from his new album and returning to the L’Boulevard stage after a seven-year absence.
Festival president Idriss Iraqi welcomed the strong turnout and highlighted the participation of Moroccan artists among the leading names of this year’s edition. He also pointed to Tremplin, L’Boulevard’s competition and platform for discovering emerging Moroccan musicians, as a space where young artists can perform live, receive feedback from professionals and advance their careers.
Dizzy DROS said he was happy to return to a festival where he had “grown up,” underlining its importance to his artistic journey and its continued support for young musicians. He also welcomed the opportunity to perform his new album with a live band, saying the format adds a visual and sonic dimension to the show. The 24th edition of L’Boulevard continues in Casablanca through September 20 with concerts and activities supporting contemporary music and young artists.
