Morocco and US Sign Medical Training Agreements in Laayoune
Morocco and the United States have signed two memoranda of understanding to strengthen medical training, scientific research and patient care.
The agreements were signed on Thursday, October 29, in Laayoune. The signing took place during the second edition of the Moroccan-American Medical Days.
The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Laayoune, part of Ibn Zohr University, signed the agreements with two American institutions. These are Celenova Fertility and the Fetal Research Fund.
Agreements Focus on Training and Research
The first agreement involves Celenova Fertility, represented by its medical director, Susan Nasab. The second brings together the faculty and the Fetal Research Fund, represented by Professor Boris Petrikovsky.
Nasab said the partnership with Ibn Zohr University focuses on three main areas. These include training doctors and students, developing scientific research and improving patient care.
The cooperation will also support the exchange of treatment protocols and medical strategies. It aims to strengthen the skills of doctors, medical students and residents.
Nasab also highlighted the importance of fertility preservation, particularly for cancer patients. The partnership will also address treatments and interventions related to reproductive health.
Partnership to Support Joint Research
Petrikovsky described the agreement with the Fetal Research Fund as an opportunity to expand joint research between Morocco and the United States. The fund is an international nonprofit research organization.
He added that the partners plan to publish their findings in the Journal of Neonatal Care.
Fatima Zahra Alaoui, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Laayoune, said the agreements would give the institution access to specialized expertise. She highlighted fetal and newborn health as key areas of interest.
Alaoui added that the partnerships would support scientific research at the faculty and contribute to medical research across the country.
The agreements form part of broader medical and academic cooperation between Morocco and the United States. The second Moroccan-American Medical Days brings together doctors, professors and researchers from both countries in Laayoune through October 30.
Participants are discussing medical advances and ways to improve healthcare practices.
