Morocco-U.S. Medical & Surgical Caravan Launched in Dakhla
A Morocco-U.S. medical and surgical caravan was launched on Tuesday at the Hassan II Regional Hospital in Dakhla to benefit the region’s residents.
Organized by the Youth Pioneer Organization, in partnership with the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection and the Children’s Hope Foundation (PCCHF), this solidarity initiative—held until May 10—provides specialized medical check-ups and surgical procedures, particularly in general surgery and obstetrics and gynecology.
In a statement to MAP, Fatima Zahra Benmezian, a certified surgical assistant based in the United States and member of the PCCHF, noted that patients flocked in large numbers since the very first day, adding that between 75 and 80 surgical procedures were performed under optimal conditions, particularly in gynecology-obstetrics and general surgery.
She further emphasized that this campaign mobilizes a team of approximately 25 healthcare professionals, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses, as part of a commitment to improve access to surgical care for local communities.
For her part, American gynecologist Consuela Cruden-Parham, head of the PCCHF mission, praised the quality of the collaboration with Moroccan teams, noting that this solidarity initiative—held for the third time in Dakhla—also aims to promote the exchange of expertise and strengthen local capacity.
This medical caravan is part of ongoing efforts to bring health services closer to population and improve access to specialized care, while reinforcing the values of solidarity, international cooperation, and the sharing of expertise.
Held from May 1 to 10, this campaign brings together Moroccan and American medical teams, committed to an initiative with a strong focus on humanity and solidarity.
