Morocco’s New Government Wins Parliament’s Confidence With 204 Votes
Morocco’s House of Representatives has approved the government programme presented by Head of Government Fatima Zahra El Mansouri, clearing the final constitutional step for the new government’s investiture.
During a plenary session on Thursday, the programme received 204 votes in favour and 127 against, according to the announcement.
The vote took place under Article 88 of the Constitution, which requires an absolute majority of the members of the House of Representatives to approve the government programme before the government can take office.
Parliament approves government programme
The vote grants the new government the confidence of the lower house of Parliament. With the programme approved, the government has now fulfilled the constitutional requirements for its investiture.
Article 88 sets out the procedure for forming a government following the presentation of its programme before both chambers of Parliament. Approval by an absolute majority of the House of Representatives is a key condition in this process.
The result concludes the parliamentary stage of the government’s investiture, following the presentation of its programme by El Mansouri.
