The Moroccan-Spanish Joint Transit Commission met on Wednesday in Tangier, co-chaired by Khalid Zerouali, Director of Migration and Border Surveillance, and Virginia Barcones Sanz, Spain’s Secretary General for Civil Protection and Emergencies.
During the meeting, officials highlighted that Operation Marhaba reflects the strong commitment of King Mohammed VI to support Moroccans living overseas, ensuring they can return home under the best possible conditions.
Discussions focused on operational measures put in place by both countries to guarantee a smooth and secure transit process. Authorities also announced a large-scale transport plan, with high daily capacity for both passengers and vehicles. Significant investments have been made to upgrade port and airport infrastructure. Moroccan consulates in Spain will also remain fully mobilized, offering daily services, including weekends and public holidays.
On the Spanish side, measures include increasing port processing capacity, deploying additional security and port police staff, and setting up coordination centers, as well as rest and information areas for travelers.
Speaking to the press, Barcones Sanz praised King Mohammed VI’s continued attention to the operation, noting its strategic importance and strong human dimension.
