Benjamin Gantz, Israel’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, was received in Rabat on Wednesday by the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of the National Defense Administration and the Lieutenant General, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, on High Royal Instructions.

According to a statement from the FAR General Staff, Abdeltif Loudyi, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of the National Defense Administration, received an important Israeli delegation led by Benjamin Gantz, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the State of Israel, on an official visit to Morocco from November 23 to 25 in accordance with the High Royal Instructions.

This visit is part of the Kingdom of Morocco’s and the State of Israel’s cooperation relations, which have progressed significantly since the signing of the tripartite declaration (Morocco-Israel-US) in December 2020, under the leadership of HM the King, enshrining the resumption of diplomatic relations.

The Royal Armed Forces recently established a permanent security checkpoint at the heart of the Guerguerat border crossing to secure the flow of civilians and commercial trucks to and from the Kingdom of Morocco.

Securing this border crossing in Guerguerat comes after the launch of a successful military operation led by the Royal Armed Forces, in the buffer zone of Guerguerat, on November 13th last year, when it managed to extend its control over the area and re-secure the flow of goods and people through the border crossing between Morocco and Mauritania.

The establishment of the observation point comes within the framework of securing the area and the crossing point in order to put an end to any potential threat or obstruction caused by provocations led by separatist “Polisario” in the aforementioned region, and to re-establish civil and commercial freedom of movement towards Mauritania and Africa.

The Royal Moroccan Armed Forces continue to tighten the screws on the Polisario by extending the security wall in Moroccan Sahara, to completely block entry points for separatist “Polisario”, and prevent them from reaching buffer zones, which they allegedly call the “liberated lands.”

This new wall built by the Roayl Armed Forces aims to secure the Touizgui area in the province of Assa-Zag, and to complete the border system in the east.

The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) have just extended the security wall by 50 kilometers in Touizgui, Assa-Zag province. According to satellite images broadcast by the FAR channel on YouTube, the new wall is located 3 kilometers away from the Algerian wall.

According to Abdelhamid Harifi, researcher specializing in the defense sector and consultant in military affairs, the construction of this wall responds to a need to secure the area, which is subject to infiltration of drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and even occasional overruns by the Algerian army and gendarmerie.

The new wall forms the junction between the sand wall that stretches from Guergarat to Djebel Ouarkziz, and the Moroccan-Algerian borders. “In recent years, Morocco has secured its borders east of Saïdia, up to Figuig. There has been a colossal investment to build barbed wire and trenches along the borders, which are equipped with a state-of-the-art surveillance system” explains Harifi, adding that the system was purchased from the French company Thalès during Sarkozy’s visit to Morocco in 2007.

Following the FAR operation on November 13th aimed at securing the Guergarat border crossing, the Polisario had decided to break the 1991 ceasefire. Since then, the separatists have published daily press releases reporting attacks along the way of the security wall in Moroccan Sahara.

In this regard, a source from the FAR said, “Polisario leaders know that their militias cannot make any tangible difference, the rest is pure propaganda for internal use.”

Amid recent clashes over Moroccan Sahara, Separatist Polisario Front has yet again attempted an attack on the Moroccan defense wall in Mahbes— Moroccan Sahara town close to the Algerian border.

An exchange of gunfire erupted between Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and separatist Polisario Front after armed Polisario militiamen drove a military vehicle along the defense wall in an attempt to attack it.

Morocco and separatist Polisario face-off led to the complete destruction of Polisario’s armed vehicle and the death of the militiamen on board.

In line with separatist Polsiario’s provocations, Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces seized weapons belonging to the Front east of the security wall, reported FAR MAROC.

According to the same source, “For more than two weeks, there has not been any provocations from the hostile Polisario militias. There has also not been any financial or human casualties affecting the Royal Armed Forces.”

The situation in Guergeret is under Morocco’s control since the 13th of November. Mauritania is also curbing the Front’s movements, preventing it from entering its territory, said FAR Maroc.

The events follow the US recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara as of Thursday, December 10.

The same source clarified that “since the 13th November 2020, separatist “Polisario” militia has carried out provocations by shooting along the security wall without causing any human or material damage in the rows of the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces.

The group added that, in implementation of orders not to tolerate provocations of this kind, elements of the Royal Armed Sources responded firmly to these provocations; which resulted in the destruction of a mechanism for carrying weapons in the east of the security wall in the “Mahbas” area.

Separatist “Polisario” Militia have engaged in other provocations. “Polisario” gangs have gathered around the Moroccan Consulate in Spain and lowered the Moroccan flag to replace it with an imaginary flag that supposedly represents a non-existing front.

The Polisario Front violated the Ceasefire Agreement by announcing the beginning of the war.  Mercenaries, it must be noted, fled Guergarat this morning following Royal Armed Forces’ (RAF) intervention.

Additionally, Polisario members launched hostile acts far from Guergarat, after the spokesman for “The Phantom Republic” issued a statement declaring war.
RAF responded using anti-tank means, which made it possible to easily neutralize the wave of attacks.
