10th Moulay El Hassan Grand Prix: Moroccan Para-Athletics Shows Strong Progress
Rabat did not just host another international competition. For three days, from April 23 to 25, the Olympic Stadium in the capital became a global meeting point for para-athletics during the 10th Moulay El Hassan Grand Prix. The event has now become an important stop on the international circuit and delivered strong sporting and organizational success.
The competition took place under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. At the end of the event, Morocco finished in third place overall with 31 medals: 8 gold, 16 silver, and 7 bronze. Moroccan athletes performed strongly and competed with some of the best nations in the world.
Brazil dominated the competition with 57 medals, including 38 golds, confirming its status as a world leader in para-athletics. China finished second with 34 medals, showing its continued rise in the sport.
Beyond the medal count, the results highlight the growing development of para-sports in Morocco. The president of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for Persons with Disabilities, Hamid El Aouni, described the event as a complete success. He praised both the organization and the high level of competition.
He also pointed to Morocco’s third-place finish among 58 participating countries as proof of steady long-term progress in para-athletics. He added that the event helped young Moroccan athletes gain experience and achieve strong performances against international champions.
More than 500 athletes from 58 countries took part in the competition, including world and Paralympic champions. The event featured nearly 120 disciplines across different disability categories.
Rabat provided strong logistical support, with around 100 referees, 100 organizers, 150 volunteers, and a medical team of 15 specialists ensuring smooth operations.
This successful organization strengthens Morocco’s ambition to make the Grand Prix a leading international para-athletics event. Looking ahead to future Paralympic competitions, the federation aims to expand participation and further improve the level of competition.
Overall, the 10th edition was more than a sporting event. It showed Morocco’s expertise in hosting international competitions, revealed new talent, and confirmed para-athletics as a growing field of excellence and inclusion in the country.
