Bourita Highlights Royal Vision for Africa on Africa Day
Morocco reaffirms its commitment to African cooperation and development during Africa Day celebrations in Rabat. Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita highlighted on Monday the foundations of King Mohammed VI’s vision for Africa during an event marking Africa Day in Rabat.
Bourita said the Royal Vision is built on five pillars, including Morocco’s sense of belonging to Africa, a policy based on optimism and trust in African potential, comprehensive cooperation, the sharing of expertise, and major regional initiatives led by the King.
He quoted King Mohammed VI’s statement before the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa: “Africa is my continent and my home”.
The minister said Morocco’s Africa policy is based on partnership and co-development rather than power dynamics, noting that the Kingdom has signed nearly 1,800 bilateral agreements with African countries, including 1,400 under King Mohammed VI’s reign.
Bourita also highlighted Morocco’s regional initiatives, including the Atlantic Initiative and the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project involving 13 Atlantic African countries.
He said Morocco currently has diplomatic representations in 42 African countries, while nearly 80% of African states maintain embassies in Rabat.
On education, Bourita noted that Morocco hosts nearly 60,000 African students and has allocated 5,500 scholarships for African countries during the 2025-2026 academic year.
Addressing security issues, he stressed Morocco’s commitment to African stability, territorial integrity, and the fight against separatism, terrorism, and organized crime.
Regarding the Moroccan Sahara, Bourita said support from nearly two-thirds of African countries for Morocco’s autonomy plan reflects growing backing for the initiative.
