How Morocco Decided to Become a Gaming Superpower?
Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan opens Morocco Gaming Expo 2026 — Rabat's third edition of Africa's largest gaming show. A national expo now in its third year, 15 million gamers, and a plan to capture 1% of a €260 billion global market — Belgian broadcaster RTL laid out the strategy Rabat is betting on.
The decision was not made overnight. Morocco’s ambition to become a major force in the global video game industry rests on a strategy that is already three years in the making — and Belgian TV channel RTL, in its Monday prime-time news, took its viewers through exactly how Rabat intends to pull it off. The goals are striking: train 10,000 young people in gaming-related professions by 2030, attract major international gaming companies, and turn the capital into Africa’s undisputed gaming hub.
RTL noted that Rabat is hosting the Morocco Gaming Expo for the third consecutive year — Africa’s largest video game exhibition — as part of a national effort to position the Kingdom among the emerging players in an industry that brings together more than three billion gamers worldwide.

Gaming as a jobs strategy
The development of the gaming sector is also framed as a direct response to youth employment challenges, RTL explained. The Moroccan strategy rests on vocational and academic training in gaming-related professions, with the objective of building a strong pool of local talent. The ambition extends to fostering the emergence of Moroccan game studios and supporting entrepreneurship — to place the country on the global map of video game producers.
The numbers behind the ambition
Morocco’s target is to capture 1% of global gaming industry revenues — estimated at around €260 billion in 2025. By 2030, the Kingdom aims to generate €2.6 billion in gaming-related revenues and establish Rabat as a leading gaming centre in Africa, RTL concluded.
