India Postpones Africa Summit Over Ebola Outbreak
India postponed the India-Africa Forum Summit over the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. India and the African Union have postponed a summit scheduled for next week in New Delhi due to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
India’s Ministry of External Affairs said both sides agreed to delay the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit, initially planned for May 28-31, because of the evolving health situation in Africa.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said the Ebola outbreak risk is considered “high” for Central Africa but “low” globally. The agency suspects the outbreak may have caused 139 deaths among nearly 600 probable cases in the DRC.
India also said it is ready to support efforts led by the Africa CDC to respond to the health situation.
