International Diplomatic Delegation Visits Laayoune to Review MINURSO Work
An international diplomatic delegation arrived in Laayoune on Monday as part of ongoing efforts to monitor developments in the Moroccan Sahara issue and review the work of the United Nations mission in the territory.
The visit comes as discussions continue within the United Nations on the situation in the region, particularly the role of the UN peacekeeping mission MINURSO.
The delegation includes representatives from several countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Japan, and the United Kingdom, as well as members of the European Union mission in Rabat. Their program includes official meetings and field visits in and around Laayoune.
According to available information, the delegation will receive briefings at MINURSO’s headquarters on its operations, including how it monitors the ceasefire and recent developments on the ground.
The group is also expected to meet local officials and elected representatives to learn more about development projects in the region, especially in infrastructure, investment, and public services.
The visit follows a closed-door meeting of the United Nations Security Council, where members discussed the latest developments in Moroccan Sahara.
During the meeting, UN officials, including envoy Staffan de Mistura and MINURSO head Alexander Ivanko, briefed the Council on the political process and the situation on the ground.
The discussions are part of ongoing international efforts to find a realistic and lasting solution to the conflict.
