Morocco Lands in Miami: “Moroccan Visions” Opens at Coral Gables Museum
The Coral Gables Museum in Miami-Dade County has been hosting “Moroccan Visions” since May 13 — a cultural programme that brings together contemporary Moroccan art, traditional storytelling, and artistic workshops, offering South Florida audiences an immersion into the richness and diversity of Moroccan cultural heritage. The initiative was organized by the Moroccan Consulate General in Miami, in partnership with the Coral Gables Museum and the Moroccan American Council Association of South Florida, and forms part of the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of Moroccan-American relations.
The exhibition, inaugurated on Wednesday, runs for more than a month and brings together over twenty works by four contemporary Moroccan artists with complementary creative universes: Mostafa Naffi, Souad Byad, Hanane Elhjaji, and Mohamed Jaamati. It offers the wider Miami region and South Florida a privileged view into the diversity of styles and themes that run through Moroccan visual art, carried by two generations of artists.
Visions du Maroc is an exhibition that magnificently embodies the spirit of cultural diplomacy between our two nations. Art allows us to share our heritage, our values and our vision of the future in a way that words alone cannot express.
— Chafika El Habti, Consul General of Morocco in Miami · Opening ceremony, May 13, 2026
A museum that wanted more
Elvis Fuentes, Executive Director of the Coral Gables Museum, noted that the decision to run the exhibition for more than a month reflects the “extraordinary enthusiasm” shown by the public for its content. He also expressed the museum’s desire to strengthen ties with Moroccan arts institutions going forward.
As part of the wider cultural programme, the museum will also present a Moroccan edition of its monthly “Family Day in Aragon” series — giving children and families the chance to discover Moroccan storytelling traditions, visual culture, music, and artistic expressions inspired by Morocco’s rich cultural heritage.
