Morocco Condemns Algeria’s Unacceptable Behavior at UNESCO
Samir Addahre, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the Kingdom of Morocco to UNESCO. Morocco’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO on Thursday condemned what it described as “unacceptable behavior” by individuals claiming to be part of the Algerian delegation during Africa Week cultural events organized by UNESCO.
The Moroccan delegation said that representatives of Moroccan civil society, who were present to showcase the country’s heritage, culture, and identity, were subjected to insults during Wednesday’s events.
It noted that such incidents have increased since the Moroccan caftan was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on December 10, 2025, in New Delhi.
Morocco stressed that its heritage is historically established, widely recognized, and documented by competent international bodies, including UNESCO.
The delegation also condemned what it called attempts to politicize cultural spaces and urged UNESCO to uphold its principles of ethics and cultural integrity.
