Oussama Targhalline Sets Sights on First World Cup with Morocco
Moroccan international Oussama Targhalline has expressed his ambition to play in the first FIFA World Cup of his career, hoping to be included in Morocco’s final squad for the 2026 tournament, which will be announced on May 26.
“It’s a World Cup. Everyone dreams of playing in it”, the Feyenoord Rotterdam midfielder said in an interview published Wednesday by sports TV channel ESPN.
With eleven caps for the Morocco national football team, Targhalline was selected by national coach Mohamed Ouahbi during the last two international windows, although he has yet to establish himself as a regular starter.
“We first have a friendly match, then we’ll know the final squad. I hope to be part of it”, he added, stressing that he is “doing everything necessary” to convince the national coach.
“I’m doing everything I can. I work hard and do what’s needed,” explained the 24-year-old midfielder.
Looking ahead to the World Cup, Targhalline said the Atlas Lions must aim high following their historic run to the semi-finals in 2022.
“There are no easy matches in the World Cup. I hope we win all our games and reach the next round”, he said.
“We have to live up to our status and go as far as possible. Why shouldn’t we reach the final?” he concluded.
Morocco will take on Brazil, Haiti and Scotland in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
