TRH Princesses and Brigitte Macron Mark Opening of Rabat Royal Theater
Their Royal Highnesses Princesses Lalla Khadija, Lalla Meryem, and Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Royal Theater of Rabat Foundation, attended the opening show of the Rabat Royal Theater alongside Brigitte Macron. Members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors welcomed them before they headed to the Royal Box.
The evening began with a film presenting the Royal Theater as a symbol of Rabat’s cultural and artistic renewal. The institution reflects Morocco’s cultural dynamism under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and promotes a modern vision of Moroccan art while supporting creative development.
As a major architectural and cultural landmark, the theater aims to position Rabat among leading international cultural destinations. It also strengthens Morocco’s role as a hub for intercultural dialogue and the promotion of shared human values.
After the orchestra and choir performed the national anthem, the program continued with a rich musical selection featuring Moroccan artists. Pianist Marouan Benabdallah performed pieces from the classical repertoire. Mezzo-soprano Ahlima Mhamdi delivered renowned operatic arias. Samira Kadiri presented works from the Arab-Andalusian tradition, while composer and oud player Driss El Maloumi introduced a contemporary piece inspired by Moroccan sounds.
The program combined international classics, including works by Tchaikovsky, Bizet, and Verdi, with Andalusian influences and modern Moroccan compositions, creating a balanced and engaging artistic experience.
A key moment of the evening brought together the Morocco Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Symphony Orchestra for the first time. Under the direction of Dina Bensaïd, 76 musicians and 40 choristers performed together, marking a significant artistic collaboration.
At the end of the show, the Princesses and Brigitte Macron met the artists, including Samira Kadiri, Ahlima Mhamdi, Dina Bensaïd, Marouan Benabdallah, Driss El Maloumi, and Younes Terfas.
The event attracted Moroccan and international artists, cultural figures, intellectuals, and members of the diplomatic community in Rabat.
Located in the Bouregreg valley, near the Hassan Tower and the Mohammed V Mausoleum, the Rabat Royal Theater stands alongside the Mohammed VI Tower as a symbol of the capital’s renewal. It forms part of the “Rabat City of Light, Moroccan Capital of Culture” program, launched under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which places culture at the center of national development.
