US Reaffirms Push to End Moroccan Sahara Dispute
The United States will continue its diplomatic efforts to find a solution to the Moroccan Sahara dispute, US Ambassador to Morocco Duke Buchan III said on Sunday. He stressed that the time has come to bring the dispute to an end.
In a post on his personal account on X, Buchan said Washington had presented what he described as a historic path toward peace in the region.
According to the ambassador, the proposal could help end the suffering of Sahrawi refugees in the Tindouf camps. He also referred to the humanitarian conditions in the camps, citing a description attributed to the United Nations in his post.
Buchan noted that the US draft resolution received the support of 11 members of the UN Security Council. He said the proposal aimed to address the difficult humanitarian conditions facing refugees in the camps and move the political process toward a settlement.
The ambassador added that US President Donald Trump believes an urgent solution to the dispute would not only help bring peace to the region but also strengthen prosperity and integration across Africa.
