Japan Praises Morocco’s Atlantic Initiatives for Africa During High-Level Talks
Motegi Toshimitsu (Minister of Foreign Affairs, Japan) Rabat — Japan on Friday praised Morocco’s Royal Atlantic Initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability, and economic development across Africa during a video conference between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Japanese counterpart Motegi Toshimitsu.
According to a joint communiqué issued following the talks, Japan commended Morocco’s efforts to strengthen African integration, deepen cooperation with African countries, and support peace, stability, and shared prosperity across the continent.
Tokyo also welcomed several strategic initiatives launched under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, including the “Initiative of Atlantic African States,” the “African Atlantic Gas Pipeline,” and the “Initiative for Sahel Countries’ Access to the Atlantic Ocean.”
The Japanese government described the projects as important contributions to regional connectivity and development, highlighting Morocco’s growing diplomatic and economic role in Africa and the Atlantic region.
The recognition from Japan — one of the world’s leading economies and a major international actor — comes as Morocco continues to position itself as a key regional partner on issues related to African development, energy cooperation, and South-South partnerships.
The two ministers also noted that Morocco and Japan are celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026. The relationship between the two countries has been marked by decades of cooperation, friendship, and mutual support in bilateral and international affairs.
