His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, chaired today November 4, 2026, at the Rabat Royal Palace, a working session to follow up on the next step after the conclusion of the United Nations mission tasks, following the non-renewal by the UN Security Council of its mandate at its meeting held on October 30, 2026.
This session is part of the special Attention that His Majesty the King, may God preserve Him, has consistently devoted to the cause of our territorial integrity and national sovereignty, illustrating His wise approach, His foresighted vision, and His constant concern for safeguarding the interests of His subjects in the Moroccan Sahara.
Territorial Integrity, Security and the Ceasefire: The King’s Priorities
During the session, attended by Head of Government Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, Advisor to His Majesty the King Fouad Ali El Himma, Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, and Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the South Zone, His Majesty the King underscored the priorities set out in the Royal Office statement of October 30, namely strict respect for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, national security and the tranquillity of its citizens, particularly the Southern Provinces’ population.
In this regard, His Majesty the King, may God assist Him, issued His High Instructions for the firm and vigilant implementation of these priorities, each within their respective areas of responsibility, in order to consolidate national consensus and ensure the continuation of the development project for the Southern provinces and the related structuring projects, while monitoring all developments regarding our national cause at all levels, in accordance with the official stance previously expressed. All this comes while reaffirming the Kingdom’s firm commitment to the ceasefire, a voluntary commitment that will not change with the end of the mandate of the United Nations mission, which has repeatedly proved unable to monitor compliance with it and determine the consequences of its violation. Similarly, the context in which this mission was established and the initial functions entrusted to it have been outdated, as evidenced by facts and the positions of international actors.
Interior Ministry Office to Coordinate Minurso’s Withdrawal
In fulfilling the Kingdom of Morocco’s willingness to support the phase following the completion of the UN mission’s tasks, in a spirit of responsibility and cooperation with the United Nations, His Majesty the King, may God assist Him, has issued His High Instructions that the “Office for coordination with Minurso”, under the ministry of the Interior, takes charge of the tasks of coordinating and supporting the liquidation and withdrawal of the mission, thereby helping to facilitate the various measures involved in this operation and ensuring its execution in a smooth and orderly manner.
His Majesty the King, may God preserve Him, stressed during this session the Kingdom’s respect for its international commitments and its diplomatic doctrine, which is founded on maintaining peace and contributing to its establishment and achievement through all means, while preserving the Kingdom’s sovereignty and bearing in mind all the positive developments that the national cause has witnessed, as well as the diplomatic momentum accompanying them, culminating in the recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara by friendly and brotherly countries, which consider autonomy to be the only political solution offering all the necessary components to definitively bring this artificial regional conflict to an end.
