Morocco’s Gaza Role Signals Consistent Diplomacy
Morocco formalizes its role in Gaza's stabilization force, part of the Kingdom's commitment to peace and security in the region Morocco has formally signed on to the International Stabilization Force in Gaza, in a move Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita frames as the latest sign of a consistent diplomatic approach from King Mohammed VI, rooted in his long-standing commitment to peace in the Middle East and support for the Palestinian cause.
Bourita, who also handles Africa policy and expatriate affairs, spoke in Rabat on Wednesday as Morocco inked the agreement with the Board of Peace covering the Moroccan contingent’s role in the ISF. The signing came on what he described as very high instructions from the King, who chairs the Al-Quds Committee.
The minister said the agreement reflects, above all, the King’s commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East and his support for the brotherly Palestinian people. He framed Morocco’s ISF role as a continuation of the King’s broader efforts on behalf of Palestinians, describing the royal approach as consistent over time.
The Royal Vision has always been consistent, Bourita said, describing it as geared toward concrete, pragmatic contributions that don’t compromise Morocco’s established positions.
He pointed to past examples of that approach, including humanitarian shipments of medical equipment and basic goods to Gaza, delivered via a land corridor he said Morocco alone negotiated and used. He also cited the continuing work of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, which operates under royal instructions to rebuild and support schools and hospitals in East Al-Quds, fund scholarships for Palestinian students, support Al-Quds orphans, and back income-generating projects for families in need.
The agreement was signed at a meeting at the headquarters of the Royal Gendarmerie, where Bourita and Minister Delegate for National Defense Administration Abdeltif Loudyi received Nickolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace’s High Representative for Gaza, leading a delegation of Board officials and the ISF Commander. Board of Peace officials and the ISF Commander welcomed Morocco’s contribution, which includes deploying senior Royal Armed Forces officers to the ISF Joint Command, Royal Gendarmerie and DGSN officials, and the establishment of a field military hospital.
Bourita closed by restating Morocco’s position on a two-state solution: a Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Al-Quds as its capital, existing alongside Israel in peace and security.
