Morocco–US Relations Strengthened in High-Level Meetings in Boston and Massachusetts
Ambassador Amrani and Governor Maura Healey Morocco’s Ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, held two significant meetings in Boston and Massachusetts this week, reinforcing the growing partnership between Morocco and the United States ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He held meetings with Massachusetts Governor Maura T. Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. The discussions focused on deepening cooperation between the two countries and preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Boston is set to host Morocco’s second group-stage match against Scotland on 19 June. The city is expected to welcome thousands of Moroccan fans during the tournament.
Amrani said the visit reflects Morocco’s strategy of engaging not only with federal authorities in Washington but also with influential state and city leaders across the United States. He said these local partnerships are increasingly important in strengthening international relations.
He also highlighted the long-standing relationship between Morocco and the United States, describing it as a partnership built over more than 250 years of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect.
Local officials in Massachusetts welcomed Morocco’s participation in the World Cup. Governor Healey said the event will be an opportunity to promote cultural exchange and bring people from different backgrounds together.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu praised the Moroccan community in the city, noting its strong presence in education, business, and public life. She said Boston is preparing to host teams and supporters and aims to ensure a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere during the tournament.
City officials also emphasized that the World Cup will be a major moment for Boston, highlighting the city’s openness, diversity, and international character.
