Chellah’s ‘Nostalgia’ Show Brings History to Life
The immersive "Nostalgia" show at Chellah brings Morocco's history to life through light, music and live performances. An immersive historical show celebrating the rich heritage of Chellah opened on Wednesday evening at the iconic archaeological site in Rabat, offering audiences a journey through the civilizations that have shaped one of Morocco’s most treasured landmarks.
Held under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, “Nostalgia, the Soul of Time” runs through July 5, blending history, light, music and live performances into a visual experience designed to revive the memory of the historic site.
Immersive Experience Celebrates Morocco’s Heritage
Speaking at the opening, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid said the event has become a fixture on Morocco’s annual cultural calendar over the past three years.
He said the initiative aims to make Morocco’s history more accessible to the public while bringing the Kingdom’s historic monuments back to life.
The concept, which has been presented in several cities, also seeks to promote cultural tourism. Bensaid noted that tickets for this year’s edition sold out in less than 24 hours, reflecting growing public interest in Morocco’s cultural heritage.
He added that the success of the event demonstrates the potential of cultural industries to create jobs and support economic development while strengthening the connection between citizens and the history of Morocco’s cities.
Larger Cast for 2026 Edition
Director Amine Nassour said the production contributes to preserving and promoting Morocco’s archaeological heritage through storytelling rooted in history.
He said this year’s edition features a significant increase in the number of performers, bringing together young graduates of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts and Cultural Animation (ISADAC) alongside established Moroccan artists.
Actors Fatima Zahra Ahrar and Mouad Bouslam described Nostalgia as an important initiative for preserving and passing on Morocco’s history to younger generations. They said the large turnout reflected growing public interest in the country’s heritage, collective memory and identity.
They also praised the production, its historical reconstructions, the staging and the unique setting of Chellah.
Launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the Nostalgia program uses immersive performances to showcase Morocco’s historic sites and present the country’s history through innovative approaches.
